Pacifica, Calvary Chapel, Woodbridge Are Honored

Pacifica, Woodbridge and Calvary Chapel swept top honors on the all-section softball teams announced by the CIF-Southern Section Softball Coaches’ Assn.

Christy Robitaille of Woodbridge and Amanda Freed of Pacifica, each of whom pitched her team to a section championship, were selected players of the year in Division II and Division III, respectively. Christy Ring, a shortstop from Calvary Chapel, was the choice in Division V.

Woodbridge’s Alan Dugard, Rob Weil of Pacifica and Calvary Chapel’s Rose Imbriano were selected as coaches of the year in their respective divisions.

Robitaille led the county with 24 victories. She sparked the Warriors to a 2-0 victory over Santa Maria Righetti in the Division II championship game, outpitching Jocelyn Forrest, with whom she shared the division’s player-of-the-year honor.

Freed pitched a no-hitter, her ninth of the season, in a 3-0 victory over Glendora St. Lucy’s in the Division III final, to finish with a 20-0 record.

Ring, who batted .551 and was the only non-pitcher to be named player of the year in any division, starred in Calvary Chapel’s 2-0 victory over Paraclete in the Division V championship game, getting three hits and scoring both runs.

Orange County teams placed 28 players on the first teams, including nine of the 18 players chosen for the Division III first team.
