Diver Sorgi Wins National Title

Erica Sorgi of Mission Viejo upset defending national champion Carissa Zenorini of Demarest. N.J., to win her second springboard title Thursday at the National Diving Championships in Dallas.

Sorgi, 15, a sophomore at Capistrano Valley High, finished with a score of 284.79. Sorgi and Zenorini, who finished second with 261.48 points, qualified for the U.S. Diving Team, which will compete at the Diving World Cup in Mexico City next month and the World Aquatic Championships in Perth, Australia in January.

Brian Scoggin, a 6-foot-1 point guard from Saddleback College, said he will receive a partial scholarship to play at UC Irvine this season.

Scoggin, who played at Santa Margarita High School, averaged 10 points and five assists for the Gauchos. He played at Irvine Valley College in 1994-95.
