The Miami Dolphins couldn’t have asked for much more from their 28-7 exhibition victory over the Washington Redskins on Thursday night at Miami.

The Dolphins jump-started their struggling running game, came up with three interceptions and got the big play Coach Jimmy Johnson has been looking for.

Charles Jordan ran back a punt 96 yards for one score and Sam Madison picked up a fumble and scrambled 58 yards for another.

Washington committed five turnovers in the first half and looked far from ready for the regular season.

Curtis Martin and Sedrick Shaw got the New England Patriots’ first rushing touchdowns of the exhibition season as New England beat the Philadelphia Eagles, 28-14 at Philadelphia.

Shaw, a third-round draft choice from Iowa, put the Patriots up for good, 21-14, on a one-yard touchdown run with 8:38 left in the third quarter. Lovett Purnell’s 16-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter made the score 28-14.

Playing for the first time in three weeks, Sean Dawkins caught four passes and scored a second-quarter touchdown that helped the battered Indianapolis Colts to a 16-3 exhibition victory over the Detroit Lions at Indianapolis.

Detroit managed only a 45-yard field goal by Jason Hanson.
