Late 3-Point Basket Sparks San Diego Past Northridge

A three-point basket by Nosa Obasohan with two seconds to play pulled San Diego past Cal State Northridge, 71-69, before 675 at the Sports Center in San Diego.

Northridge (1-3) led, 69-64, on a driving layup in traffic by Jabari Simmons, but did not score in the final 2:30.

Obasohan, a senior whose 17 points matched his career high, made two free throws with two minutes left and Brian Miles scored seconds later to pull San Diego (3-2) within one before Obasohan’s winning basket.

Miles led the Toreros with 18 points. Greg Minor scored 21 points for Northridge, which lost its third road game.

San Diego took possession with 30 seconds to play. Unable to get the ball to post players Miles or Ryan Williams, guard Alex Parker penetrated then passed to the shoetops of Obasohan, who scooped up the ball and shot from 21 feet in one motion.

“The guy grabs the ball by his ankles and gets up a shot,” Northridge Coach Bobby Braswell said. “That’s called making a play.”

“It didn’t look like it would go our way,” San Diego Coach Brad Holland said. “We shot well from the free-throw line and kept O’Quinn from penetrating in the second half.”
