Mater Dei, the defending Southern Section Division II champion, begins its season Friday at Aliso Niguel. The Monarchs graduated 12 of 17 lettermen but still have midfielder Bret Corbin and goalkeeper Jeff McKeever.
Laguna Beach, which returns seven starters from its section Division IV championship team, opens its season Saturday in the Marina tournament. Santa Margarita, the defending Division III champion, opens Saturday in the Long Beach Millikan tournament.
