Lavin Doesn’t Hesitate to Ask Loyd for More

Junior guard Brandon Loyd has made 45.5% of his three-point shots this season, and Bruin Coach Steve Lavin wants to see more shooting and less hesitation. Loyd has started all four UCLA games, averaging 22.5 minutes, but has put up only 12 shots--making five. All but one of his shots (and all of his baskets) have been from three-point distance.
“Too unselfish,” Lavin said, adding that he took Loyd out during one stage of last Saturday’s victory over New Mexico because Loyd passed up an open three-point shot. “He’s someone who sometimes takes what I say literally, instead of figuratively speaking. Like, if I say we’ve got to reverse the ball every time, he’s thinking every time down the floor. But if you’re open and you’re a three-point shooter, I want you to shoot.”
