Matadors Lose Higgins Indefinitely

Share

Guard Derrick Higgins of Cal State Northridge will be sidelined indefinitely with a stress fracture in his right foot, Coach Bobby Braswell said Thursday.

Higgins, a senior who was the team’s leading scorer last season, is averaging 10.2 points per game and is second on the team with a 53.8% shooting percentage. The injury has gotten progressively worse over the last week.

“He could be out from three to four weeks or for the season,” Braswell said. “We’ve tried to protect it and keep it at the state it is now. If he doesn’t reduce the activity on it, it could break completely.”

Senior guards Trenton Cross and Lucky Grundy and freshman guard Carl Holmes should play more. Cross, a starter last season, is averaging only 18 minutes in a reserve role. Grundy is averaging 16 minutes and Holmes is averaging 10 minutes.
