Farias Helps Santa Ana Valley End Streak
Ralph Farias scored 14 points as Santa Ana Valley snapped a six-game losing streak with a 65-52 victory over Rancho Alamitos in the Sonora Cage Classic boys’ basketball tournament Thursday at Sonora.
Teammate Eliu Fatu contributed 13 points for the Falcons.
Henry Huisah scored 19 points for Rancho Alamitos (1-6).
In another Sonora Cage Classic game:
La Habra 85, Westminster 35--Josh Fischer scored 21 points and Brad Egan added 14 points in the pool play victory for La Habra (5-5). Juan Ramirez led Westminster (0-6) with 12 points.
In the Arroyo Grande Tournament:
No. 6 Ocean View 68, San Luis Obispo 37--Tony Dow scored 15 points in a first round victory for Ocean View. Teammate Kevin Hanson scored 14 points.
The Seahawks (5-1) play Moreno Valley in the semifinals at 6:30 p.m. today.
In the Gary Raya Co-ed Classic:
El Dorado 58, Downey 43--El Dorado’s Mike Gartner led all scorers with 21 points. Ryan Carlos added 13 points for El Dorado (6-3). Eric Saldana was the high scorer for Downey (3-5) with 17 points.
In the Orlando (Fla.) Lake Highland Prep Holiday Classic:
Edison 69, Sanford (Fla.) Crooms Academy 62 (OT)--Down, 37-26, at the half, Edison (4-2) rallied to send the game into overtime, tying the score at 59-59 at the end of regulation. Raden Sami led the Chargers with 18 points and teammate Hwan Min added 13. Charles Hanlon had 31 points for Crooms Academy (4-4).
In the Mission Hills Tri-City Christian Tournament:
Capistrano Valley Christian 55, Running Springs Cedu 43--Ryan Allen scored 21 points and had 10 steals in pool play. The Eagles continue pool play tonight at 7:30 p.m. against tournament host Tri-City Christian.
In the Trabuco Hills Invitational:
Bellflower 59, Century 54--Terrail Zoller scored 22 points for Century, which led, 25-20, at the half. Bellflower scored 23 points in the fourth quarter.
Laguna Hills 59, Fontana Miller 40--Josh Pierson led Laguna Hills with 13 points in the first round.
In the Troy Courtside Clash:
Troy 56, Whittier Christian 38--Scott Blake scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Troy. Jerry Inzunza added 14 points and six assists for the Warriors (6-2). The Warriors will play Corona del Mar at 7:30 tonight in a semifinal game.
In nonleague basketball:
No. 2 Brea Olinda 70, West Covina 52--Reid Carlson and Jeff Mason each scored 13 points for Brea Olinda. The Wildcats are 9-1.
Chris McMillian also scored 12 points for Brea Olinda.
Laguna Beach 71, Orange Lutheran 59--Chris Sirianni scored 20 points, B.J. Jameson had 19 and Kurt Beimfohr pulled down 14 rebounds for Laguna Beach (8-2).
Loara 71, Norwalk Glenn 63--Herbert Gracia made all 11 of his free-throw attempts and finished with 17 points and eight assists for Loara (8-2).
