TONIGHT’S GAME

* CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE (2-5) vs. LONG ISLAND UNIVERSITY (4-6) at FRESNO STATE TOURNAMENT, 5:30--Northridge was defeated on the road by Ohio State and Ohio last week, but a silver lining is the emergence of freshman guard Carl Holmes, who scored 20 against the Buckeyes and 21 against the Bobcats. Holmes’ playing time increased because senior Derrick Higgins is out with a stress fracture in his right foot. Forward Jabari Simmons, who was in Coach Bobby Braswell’s doghouse after showing up late to two games, was the Matadors’ strongest player inside last week. Long Island has scored at least 100 points in each victory and allowed as much in every loss. Charles Jones, the nation’s leading scorer last season, averages 31.2 points, and sophomore Richie Parker averages 19.2. Long Island qualified for the NCAA tournament last season.
