Canyons Rallies to Beat East L.A.

Bryan Finley and Woodley Polynice combined to make four free throws in the final minute, preserving a 73-70 victory for host Canyons over East L.A. in the first round of the Canyons basketball tournament Saturday night.
Finley, who scored 25 points, made three of four three-point shots in the second half and the Cougars (4-8) overcame a 30-28 halftime deficit. Polynice, brother of Sacramento Kings center Olden Polynice, had 24 points.
Canyons plays L.A. Southwest at 6 tonight in a semifinal.
In another Canyons tournament game:
Antelope Valley 74, Moorpark 66--Michael Paul, John Burrell, Lance Silvester and Carlos Wheeler each scored 13 points to lead the Marauders (10-5) over Moorpark (5-6).
Ziaire Williams added 12 points for Antelope Valley, which plays L.A. Trade Tech at 4:30 today in a semifinal.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Canyons 98, Citrus 60--Maxine Unverferth had 18 points and 17 rebounds, and Laura Tweedy had 18 points and 15 rebounds for the Cougars (8-4) in the first round of the Fullerton tournament.
Cypress 71, L.A. Valley 62--Freshman guard Irene Rodriguez scored 20 points for Valley (6-7) in the Fullerton tournament. Forward Tanya McLaughlin had 16 points for the Monarchs.
Mt. San Antonio 72, Pierce 59--Cheryl Flores had 25 points and eight assists and Aneesha Ross had 14 points for Pierce (1-6) in the Fullerton tournament.
