D.C. United Rallies to Turn Back Mutiny’s Challenge

Washington D.C. United rallied from a two-goal deficit to defeat Tampa Bay, 3-2, before 18,126 fans at RFK Stadium in Washington on Sunday.

Ben Iroha scored the decisive goal with 10 minutes left.

Washington (13-4), the defending Major League Soccer champion, leads second-place Tampa Bay (9-9) in the Eastern Conference.

John Maessner started United’s comeback with a goal in the 55th minute, and Roy Wegerle tied the score in the 65th minute.

Wegerle was acquired by Washington last week from Colorado.

Roy Lassiter and Gilmar scored for Tampa Bay.

Washington has lost only one game in regulation all season.

Dallas 3, Kansas City 1--Jorge Rodriguez scored twice and Alain Sutter added a goal as the Burn ended a three-game losing streak in front of an announced 9,205 at Kansas City.

Dallas (9-9) is third in the Western Conference, seven points behind first-place Kansas City (12-6), which had won four in a row.

San Jose 3, New England 2--Ronald Cerritos scored off a turnover in the 71st minute to give the the Clash (7-11) a victory over the Revolution (10-7) at San Jose.

New England’s Alexi Lalas tied it, 2-2, in the 58th minute.

San Jose’s Jeff Baicher opened the scoring in the 37th minute, New England’s Alberta Naveda countered 45 seconds later and Tony Dayak gave the Clash a 2-1 lead in the final minute of the half.
