Harrison, Hart Easily Stop Paraclete, 44-26

Led by senior Melissa Harrison, the Hart High girls’ basketball team dominated Paraclete in a 44-26 second-round victory Thursday night in the Santa Clarita Summer Shootout at College of the Canyons.

Harrison scored 12 of her 16 points in the first half and finished with eight rebounds as the Indians jumped out to a 26-7 halftime lead. Hart opened the game by scoring the first six points, then had another 6-0 run after yielding a basket to Christine Lambert. Hart added 14 unanswered points after giving up two additional baskets.

Lambert led Paraclete, which only suited up six players, with 11 points. Hart received strong efforts from Emily Reyna, who scored 12 points and Jennifer Peralta, who had eight.

Hart Coach Dave Munroe told his team to come out hard after a lackluster showing in the second half in a summer league game at Simi Valley on Wednesday.

“They came out and redeemed themselves,” Munroe said. “We proved we’re not the same team that played the second half last night.”

Hart advances to a semifinal matchup today against North Hollywood.

In other second-round games:

Crescenta Valley 50, Quartz Hill 18--Playing without star Michelle Greco--who is with a traveling team--the Falcons received strong efforts from two returning starters.

Tara Gregory and Sinnammon Garrett each scored 12 points and Christy Umemoto added 10 points for Crescenta Valley.

Crescenta Valley will play Canyon in the semifinals.

Simi Valley 26, Saugus 19--Elise Metcalf and Heidi Jafari each scored six points to lead the Pioneers in a consolation game.

Metcalf had six rebounds and junior point guard Crystal Sutton had four steals for Simi Valley.

Bell-Jeff 27, Valencia 26--Stacy Cobb scored 14 points and Cindy Contero contributed six points to the Guards’ consolation victory.
