Josh Watts of the JetHawks will begin serving a two-game suspension today. The California League office handed down the sentence because Watts threw his helmet and it landed in the stands in a game on June 24.

Former Rio Mesa High standout Mike Mitchell appears to have shaken off any effects from a recent automobile accident. He singled home the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes’ first run in the sixth inning Friday night against the JetHawks. In the eighth, Mitchell hit a 425-foot home run to right field. Mitchell missed several games as a result of the head on-collision, which occurred in Camarillo. . . . The JetHawks have won their past four series. Lancaster won two of three games against Modesto, High Desert and Lake Elsinore and swept Bakersfield.

Scanning Thursday’s box scores: TRIPLE A--Right-hander Roland De La Maza (St. Genevieve) improved to 6-0 with Buffalo, allowing one run and striking out eight over five innings. SINGLE A--Right-hander Mike McMullen (Kennedy, Glendale College) pitched four scoreless innings in relief with three strikeouts for San Jose. . . . Maki Kramer (Royal, Moorpark College) ran his record to 3-3 by allowing one run and striking out five in three innings of relief for Savannah.
