Reward Offered for Leads on Driver Who Ran Over Boy
As the family of a 3-year-old who was killed by a hit-and-run driver continued to mourn, the Los Angeles City Council voted Friday to offer a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the motorist.
Police released a composite drawing of the suspect and received dozens of tips on the possible identification of the driver who killed the toddler, Ricky Ramirez, on an East Hollywood street June 13.
“We are being flooded with all kinds of phone calls,” said Los Angeles Police Department Det. Mike Dunn.
Ramirez darted from his mother and ran into Kingsley Street, where he was hit by a passing car.
Police believe the boy would have survived the impact but suffered mortal wounds while he was dragged nearly 200 feet.
Initially the car was described as a late 1970s or early 1980s light blue Buick with a white vinyl top in poor condition. Police now say the car might have been a Buick, Pontiac, Oldsmobile or Cadillac.
The driver is described as a male Latino, 35 to 45 years old, with curly black hair and a bushy mustache. The man may have since cut his hair.
