Fire in Angeles Forest Is Put Out
A brush fire in Angeles National Forest was put out Monday evening after burning 80 acres near Agua Dulce Canyon Road about four miles south of the Antelope Valley Freeway.
Edward Hesbol of the U.S. Forest Service said the fire was controlled by 6 p.m. Monday after being officially contained, or encircled, at 6 a.m.
He said there would be no fire crews on the scene overnight, but that two engine companies and a hand crew would return today for “mop up.”
More than 100 Forest Service and Los Angeles County fire crews, aided by helicopters and airplanes, battled the blaze, which began about 6:20 p.m. Sunday. The fire occurred in a remote area of steep terrain.
No homes or structures were threatened, said officials. The cause has not been determined.
