Phillies Won’t Trade Schilling

Curt Schilling, the subject of much recent trade speculation, will finish the season with the Philadelphia Phillies, General Manager Lee Thomas said Sunday.
Thomas made his remarks during the third inning of Sunday’s game against the Dodgers, who beat Schilling and the Phillies, 4-1, on Saturday night.
The announcement ended speculation that Schilling would be going to a pennant contender before the July 31 trading deadline.
“I’m just happy that it’s over with,” Schilling said. “Not that it was bothering me. My wife [Shonda] and I talked about it and we just decided that there were a lot more questions about leaving rather than staying. I’ve said all along, my first priority is to stay here and win.”
