Water Pipeline Built at Wilderness Park

Laguna Coast Wilderness Park has been brought “online,” but not into cyberspace.

The Laguna Beach County Water District recently completed construction of a water pipeline across Laguna Canyon Road to the 6,000-acre park.

“[The acres] definitely pose a fire threat if vegetation is not closely monitored or worse, in the case of arson,” said Jim Nestor, water district engineer. “But we have incorporated the fire dangers posed by the park into our master plan for emergency storage, and we are building the reserves within the district to protect us from a large wildfire.”

About 1,100 acres of the park will be annexed into the Laguna Beach County Water District. The park will use the water to provide restrooms and other recreational amenities.
