Anaheim Turnovers Clear Path for Valencia Victory

Share

Anaheim had turnovers on six of its 10 possessions, including its first two, and Valencia took advantage, defeating the winless Colonists, 17-6, in an Orange League game Friday night at Bradford Stadium.

The teams had 10 turnovers between them, five by Anaheim quarterback Jimmy Gorman, who lost one fumble and had four passes intercepted.

Although his passing was erratic, Gorman kept the Colonists in the game by scrambling for 115 yards, including their only touchdown, a 39-yarder in the second quarter.

Valencia’s Justin Lang intercepted Gorman’s second pass of the game, and returned the ball 23 yards to give the Tigers (2-5-1, 1-2) a quick 7-0 lead.

On the first play of Anaheim’s next series, Matt Randolph got the first of two interceptions and returned it to the Anaheim one-yard line.

Valencia’s Dan Maurin dove into the end zone to make it 14-0 only 1 minute 37 seconds into the game.

Valencia kept giving Anaheim (0-8, 0-3) chances, however, by committing turnovers of its own.

After an Anaheim pass was intercepted, Valencia’s Jason Annis had a pass picked off by Fred Cortez. Two plays later, Anaheim gave it back on another Gorman interception.
