Moorpark Takes Wrestling Title

The Moorpark College wrestling team clinched its 19th Western State Conference championship Wednesday with a 36-16 victory over Cypress at Moorpark.

Juan Roman (126 pounds), Gabe Roman (158 pounds) and Ati Conner (167 pounds) each pinned their opponents for the Raiders (13-1, 4-0 in conference competition).

Moorpark forfeited matches at 118 pounds and 190 pounds, with its only loss on the mat coming in the 134-pound class when Frank Ramirez was outpointed, 17-8.

MEN’S SOCCER

CS Northridge 5, UC Irvine 0--Five players scored goals, Federico Arroyo had three assists and Christian Revez had eight saves for the host Matadors (6-11-1) in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game.

Michael Preis scored at 11:31, then the Matadors blew the game open on second-half goals by William Diaz, Danny Ortega, Ank Bilaver and Oswaldo Pina Rivera.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The Master’s 60, Biola 44--Forward Elizabeth Hansell scored 13 points, guard Kasey Downen had 12 points and six assists and center Jenifer Bennett had 10 points and six rebounds for the Mustangs in a season opener at The Master’s.

Karen Gormley and Amy Williams each had five steals for Master’s, with Gormley scoring four points and Williams five.

The Mustangs outrebounded Biola, 45-37, and forced 29 turnovers. They committed 34.

WOMEN’S GOLF

Pepperdine Wave Invitational--Lisa Chang shot a 75 after a first-day score of 77 to finish tied for second place with an eight-over par 152 for the host Waves in the two-day tournament at Coto de Caza.

Patricia Mejia of Arkansas-Little Rock shot one-under par 71 after a first-round 81 to tie with Chang.

Anjeanette Dabbs of team champion Oregon State shot 70-78-148 to win the individual title. The Beavers finished at 607, with Northern Arizona second at 622.

Pepperdine tied for fourth with Arkansas at 634. Northridge finished 11th with 661.
