Servite’s defense held Savanna in check for most of the night and Vince Reed did the rest, rushing for four touchdowns in the Friars’ 35-21 victory in a first-round Southern Section Division V playoff game Friday at Cal State Fullerton.

Servite (6-5) moved the ball well for much of the game, scoring on its first two possessions. On their opening possession, the Friars went 68 yards in 10 plays capped by a seven-yard touchdown run by Reed. He finished with 95 yards rushing.

On Servite’s second possession, the Friars went 57 yards, scoring on a 21-yard touchdown run by George Sanchez. Matt DeLellis caught two passes for 37 yards on the drive to help set up the score.

Savanna (7-4) broke through in the second quarter. After gaining only eight total yards, Camron King went 47 yards for a touchdown on the Rebels’ first play after a punt. On its next possession, Savanna took only three plays before Chris Hulton ran 49 yards for another touchdown. The extra point was blocked by Adrian Hinckley and Servite held a 14-13 halftime lead.

In the second half, an interception by Servite’s Brad Banga led to a 67-yard scoring drive and a 21-13 Friar lead.

Late in the fourth quarter, King sprinted past the Servite secondary to catch a 73-yard touchdown pass from Robin Dano, but the Rebels could get no closer.
