DIVISION XI

* PARACLETE (10-1) vs. BIG BEAR (7-4).

At Big Bear Middle School, 1 p.m.

Paraclete, the division’s No. 2 seed, became the favorite to capture the title when top-seeded L.A. Baptist lost against Riverside Poly last week. As they have all season, the Spirits will rely on stellar defense and a relentless ground game to maintain possession and limit their opponent’s scoring chances. Last week, tailback Dominic Washington powered for 273 yards and four touchdowns in 37 carries in a 32-16 defeat of Kilpatrick. Washington has gained 1,612 yards with 22 touchdowns this season. When Paraclete needs a change of pace, it relies on quarterbacks Sean Fraser and Robbie Fockaert, each of whom has completed about half of his passes. The pair have combined for 1,323 yards and 14 touchdowns with six passes intercepted. Big Bear, De Anza League champions the past two years, defeated Beaumont last week at home and won a coin flip for the right to host this quarterfinal game. The Bears were eliminated by Village Christian in the quarterfinals last season.

EIGHT-MAN CHAMPIONSHIP

* SANTA MARIA VALLEY CHRISTIAN (9-1) vs. LANCASTER BETHEL CHRISTIAN (10-0)

At Lancaster Bethel, 1 p.m.

This is a rematch of a Sept. 27 nonleague game won by Bethel, 32-14, in Santa Maria. Since then, Valley Christian has won eight consecutive games by the 45-point mercy rule. All-Southern Section running back Mark Kirby rushed for 122 yards and three touchdowns in the Lions’ 56-6 semifinal victory over Riverside Christian. Travis Alkire rushed for 248 yards and four touchdowns and also returned an interception for a fifth score. He has run for 1,682 yards and 24 touchdowns in nine games.
