Thousands of Fish Killed in Westlake Lake

Share

Biologists will be conducting tests on water collected from Westlake Lake after several thousand fish were found dead and dying in the milky green water Tuesday morning.

Barbara Collins of Cal Lutheran University took several water samples from the southeastern section of the man-made lake, near the Marina Club off Lindero Canyon Road, to check for what might have killed the small fish.

“We know nothing at this time,” said Holly Mitchell, spokeswoman for the Westlake Management Assn., which operates the lake. “What we do know is that the incident was isolated to only this small section of the lake.”

Westlake Lake is home to several hundred luxury homes clustered along its banks.

Mitchell said the fish kill may have been caused by the steep temperature drop Monday night.

Results of the tests will be released in the next two weeks.
