Blizzard Beats Reign
Jennifer Rizzotti scored all 10 of her points in a 14-0 run in the first quarter to lead the New England Blizzard to a 79-65 victory over the Seattle Reign Friday night in an ABL game before 8,122 at Hartford, Conn.
Carolyn Jones added 26 points and five steals for New England (2-2).
Val Whiting led Seattle (1-4) with 22 points, 15 in the final quarter, when the Reign outscored New England, 30-19.
Kara Wolters, making her first start in the ABL, scored three early baskets and had two blocks, helping New England to a 29-12 lead after the first quarter. Wolters finished with 16 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Seattle’s Kate Starbird, the 1997 Naismith Award winner from Stanford, scored 12 points on two-for-nine shooting.
Portland 62, Columbus 57--Former UCLA star Natalie Williams scored 20 points and the Power (4-0) pulled away to beat the Quest (2-2) before 4,175 at Portland, Ore.
