Fullerton Women Rally to Beat Cypress in Water Polo

Fullerton bounced back from a one-goal deficit to defeat Cypress, 8-5, in a nonconference women’s water polo game Friday at Cypress.
The Hornets trailed, 5-4, after three quarters, but then scored four goals to win. Jamie Benson scored four goals to pace Fullerton (13-8). Cypress is 9-17.
In another nonconference game:
Golden West 14, Orange Coast 4--Nadine Akers scored five goals for Golden West (28-0), the top-ranked team in the state. Third-ranked Orange Coast is 18-6-1.
In Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer:
Fullerton 1, Orange Coast 0--Andy Wirz scored in the 55th minute on an assist from Carlos Lira for Fullerton (6-9-1, 5-2-0).
Irvine Valley 4, Cypress 2--Hector Castillo, David Sabet, Mike Henry and Carlos Torres scored goals for Irvine Valley (15-4-5, 4-1-2) in the victory over visiting Cypress (5-7-1, 3-3-1).
Santa Ana 4, Riverside 1--Ed Ramirez scored twice to lead the Dons (11-5, 5-2). Riverside is 3-4 in conference.
In Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer:
Cypress 7, Irvine Valley 0--Sheri Smith scored three goals and Kari Bates made four saves as Cypress (14-1-2, 7-0-1) shut out Irvine (8-7-1, 4-3).
Orange Coast 4, Fullerton 0--Malissa Thornhill scored two goals for the host Pirates (13-2-3, 7-0-1). Goalkeepers Kim Rudloff and Andrea Neil combined for five saves and Orange Coast’s 11th shutout. The Pirates have not given up a goal in six games since Sept. 30.
