Santa Ana’s Silva Sets Single-Game Goal Record

Marco Silva of Santa Ana scored six goals to set a single-game school record as the Dons shut out Cuyamaca, 7-0, in nonconference men’s soccer Wednesday.

Silva, a graduate of Santa Ana High, scored three goals in the first half (sixth minute, seventh minute and 35th minute) and three in the second half (eighth minute, 39th minute and 42nd minute).

The previous record was five. Alex Luna assisted on three of Silva’s goals. Nick Purdom scored the seventh goal for visiting Santa Ana (3-0).

In another nonconference game:

Golden West 2, Southwestern 2--Golden West (0-1-2) took the lead early in the second half when Esad Pepic scored his second goal to make it, 2-1. But Christian Molano of Southwestern came back at the 27-minute mark to tie the score, 2-2.

San Diego Mesa 3, Orange Coast 3--Nelson Coronado’s penalty kick in the 89th minute kept Orange Coast (0-2-1) from picking up another loss. Coronado scored his other goal in the first half.

In nonconference women’s soccer:

Long Beach 3, Orange Coast 1--Dory Marsh scored for Orange Coast (0-1). Shannon Donnelly scored twice for Long Beach (4-1).

Santa Ana 4, Rio Hondo 0--Mindy Garcia, Chris Lopez, Cecilia Zunica and Claudia Hernandez scored goals for host Santa Ana (2-1).
