Fiset Is Fit, Eager to Play

Share

The Kings will have fitness testing today, but goaltender Stephane Fiset said his biggest test was the first day of training camp after having last season cut short because of an abdominal/groin injury that led to hernia surgery in April.

“I really didn’t know what to expect. . . . The only way I was going to be able to tell if I was [fit] was to actually play,” said Fiset, who was 13-24-5 last season. “I didn’t feel any pain. Since then, I’ve been feeling better and better. I’m ready to play.”

Fiset and Jamie Storr (still unsigned) are expected to be the Kings’ goalies for their first exhibition game against San Jose on Sunday night at San Diego Sports Arena.

After playing San Jose, the Kings will travel to Denver and play the Colorado Avalanche on Monday. Coach Larry Robinson said the team probably will make its first cuts Tuesday when the Kings return to practice at the Iceoplex in North Hills. . . . Center Ray Ferraro, recovering from off-season sinus surgery, is expected to return to the ice next week. . . . General Manager Dave Taylor said the Kings are not actively pursuing any unsigned restricted free agents.
