Hogarth Ties for Fourth at Qualifier
Tim Hogarth of Chatsworth shot a two-under-par 70 to tie for fourth in the U.S. Mid-Amateur Southern California golf qualifying tournament Thursday at Empire Lakes Golf Club in Rancho Cucamonga.
Hogarth and Bob Valerio of Hawthorne finished three shots back of winner Mark Gardner of Redlands and one behind Bob Jacobson of Redondo Beach and Greg Puga of Los Angeles.
The top five finishers advanced to the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championships at the Dallas Athletic Club on Oct. 18-23.
New coach: Antelope Valley High has named April Davenport its new girls’ basketball coach. Davenport replaces Sara Deal.
Matadors No. 132: The Cal State Northridge football team is No. 132 in the latest Sagarin Computer rankings for the 233 teams in NCAA Divisions I-A and I-AA.
Other Big Sky conference teams and their rankings: Montana (59), Northern Arizona (102), Weber State (120), Eastern Washington (121), Montana State (129), Portland State (156) and Cal State Sacramento (185).
Polling place: Atop their divisions in Southern Section girls’ volleyball polls were Westlake High (Division II-A), Flintridge Sacred Heart (Division IV-AA) and Cornerstone Christian (Division V-A).
Harvard-Westlake (Division III-A) and L.A. Baptist (Division IV-A) are ranked No. 2, with Alemany (III-AA) and La Canada (III-A) ranked No. 4.
