Harvard-Westlake Reaches Semifinals

Harvard-Westlake High used a balanced attack to roll past Irvine, 13-3, on Friday in the quarterfinals of the Millikan water polo tournament.

Bill Strickland, Adam Richards and Eric Townsend each scored two goals and the Wolverines (7-0), ranked third in the Southern Section Division I poll, built a 12-0 lead after three quarters.

In other water polo matches:

Crescenta Valley 15, Agoura 9--Kenny Carpenter scored four of his five goals in the first half and the Falcons (5-1) took a 10-3 halftime lead at Crescenta Valley.

Justin Payne and Bryan Lang each scored three goals for the Falcons, who beat Agoura (4-3) for the second time this season.

Crespi 7, Newbury Park 6--Brian Ponzi scored three goals and Blake Mallen, Sid Pherson and Matt Rhodes added one each but the Panthers’ rally from a 3-0 deficit fell short at Pierce College.

Newbury Park’s Matt Rhodes scored with three minutes to play, and the Panthers had four other shots on goal in the fourth quarter. Anthony Dominguez had 11 saves for Newbury Park (0-5).

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Valley Alternative d. Los Angeles, 15-8, 7-15, 7-15, 15-7, 15-12--Jennifer Pollock had 10 kills and 10 aces, and Karla Gonzalez had eight aces, 15 digs and 19 assists for Valley Alternative (1-0).

Hart d. Crescenta Valley, 15-1, 15-12, 9-15, 18-16--Patty Plahn had 10 kills and eight aces, and Christina Luce added five kills and five blocks for the Indians (3-0) in a nonleague match at Hart.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Calabasas 12, Marlborough 6--Shervin Saedinia lost just one game in three singles sets, and Kathy Habuki and Frayla Schoenfeld lost three games in three doubles victories for the Coyotes (5-1) at the Los Angeles Tennis Club.

Flintridge Sacred Heart 12, La Canada 6--Michelle Stewart, Piper Wood and Katie Hodge all won three sets and the Tologs (1-3) swept in singles play at La Canada Country Club.

La Canada’s No. 1 doubles team of Jenny Shanley and Sonya Lee swept three sets for the Spartans (1-3).
