Whittier Christian Air Show Produces 36-25 Victory

Matt Thompson connected with Jason Carpenter for three touchdown passes and Alex Villa passed to him for another score to lead Whittier Christian to a 36-25 nonleague victory over Montebello Cantwell Friday night at Cantwell High.

Carpenter caught passes of 43, 30, one and nine yards, finishing with 83 yards in four catches. Thompson was eight of 14 for 107 yards.

Whittier Christian (3-0) amassed 493 yards of total offense, including 386 yards rushing. Alex Petrie led the rushing attack with 148 yards in 20 carries and one touchdown and Villa finished with 143 yards in 20 carries.

Palos Verdes Chadwick 26, Capistrano Valley Christian 6--Chadwick took a 26-6 lead at halftime in a nonleague game at Chadwick.

Ryan Allen led the Eagles’ option attack, rushing for three touchdowns and 101 yards in 18 carries. Allen also was four for six in passing for 75 yards. The Eagles (0-3) rushed for 286 yards as Dustin Smith gained 74 yards in 13 carries and Matt Robinson had 62 yards in 10 carries.

Kunle Williams rushed for 171 yards in eight carries and two touchdowns to lead Chadwick (3-0). Chad Dawkins had three receptions for 88 yards and touchdown and Ryan Maier was seven for 11 in passing with 130 yards and two touchdowns for the Dolphins.

Lakewood Mayfair 33, Brethren Christian 7--Lakewood Mayfair (2-1) scored four consecutive touchdowns, including a 90-yard kick return by Michael Williams, before the Warriors (2-1) finally answered with a score at Bellflower High in front of 2,000.

Warrior running back Adrian Castillo scored on a five-yard run in the third quarter to make the score, 26-7.

Earlier in the game, Brethren Christian linebacker Brent Hayzlett was taken to the hospital with a possible broken leg. Hayzlett was injured in the first quarter.

Midway Baptist 50, St. Margaret’s 12--Alex Perin had a big night for St. Margaret’s (0-3) despite the loss, rushing for 117 yards and throwing a 70-yard touchdown pass to Jimmy Freeman at Midway Baptist High. Perin also made four catches for 111 yards. Midway Baptist is 1-2.

Norwalk 32, La Quinta 13--The Barons, who dropped to 0-3, have been outscored 116-45. They begin Garden Grove league play on Thursday at Bolsa Grande.
