Nordhoff Double-Teams the Field

Nordhoff High dominated the non-scoring Blue Lagoon Invitational cross-country meet Saturday at UC Santa Barbara.

Seniors Victor Ochoa, Dusty Herman and Matthew Torres took the top three places in the boys’ race and the Rangers placed six runners in the top 10.

Senior Elaine Canchola ran away from the field in the girls’ race, with three of her teammates placing in the top 10.

Ochoa covered the three miles in 15:22, followed by Herman in 15:45 and Torres in 16:14.

Canchola clocked 18:02, followed by Katie Moon of Lompoc in 19:33 and Rae Stumbough of Nordhoff in 20:04. Jessica Huerta of Fillmore was fourth in 20:21.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

La Canada 18, Notre Dame 9--Dutch Turley scored six goals and Charles Chang scored five for the Spartans (13-2) in the championship game of the Calabasas tournament.

The Knights (11-2) were led by Andrew Langer and Jon Horwitz with three goals each. In the semifinals, La Canada defeated Santa Ynez, 11-4.

Righetti 12, Ventura 6--Chad Caldwell scored three goals, but the Cougars lost the championship of the Buena tournament.

Buena 9, Lompoc 6--Eric Nisbet scored three goals for the Bulldogs (6-4) in the third-place match of their own tournament.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Cornerstone Christian d. Dunn, 15-9, 15-6, 15-3--Tracy Sasaki had eight kills and seven for the Eagles (6-0, 1-0) in a Condor League match at Cornerstone Christian.
