Cleveland Rolls a Seven to Beat Newbury Park, 9-6

Charlie Santillan walked with the bases loaded to give Cleveland High the winning run during a six-run seventh inning in a 9-6 victory over Newbury Park in the Durango tournament Tuesday in Las Vegas.

Justin Savitt and Vincent Zuniga each had three hits for Cleveland (9-3), and Max Santillan and Eric Aguiar each added two hits.

Aguiar’s single scored Tony Cicero to tie the score, 6-6.

Chatsworth 23, Grant 0--Jason Renno (1-0), a seldom-used senior right-hander, pitched a no-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks in a Kennedy tournament game at Grant that was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

Three errors by the Chancellors (13-1) spoiled the perfect game.

Tom Morefield hit two home runs, including a grand slam, bringing his season total to six. He finished with eight RBIs.

Bryan Gant hit a home run and a double and had four RBIs, and Danny Eisenberg also hit a home run for the Chancellors.

Kennedy 8, University 5--Phil Arias hit a tie-breaking bases-loaded triple in the sixth inning for the Golden Cougars in a Kennedy tournament game at University.

Tim Arroyo hit a two-run home run and allowed one baserunner in two innings to earn a save for Kennedy (11-3).

Simi Valley 9, San Fernando 2--David Land and Brandon Vorrhees each had two hits and two RBIs for the Pioneers (7-4) in a Kennedy tournament game at Simi Valley.

Bryan Stephan pitched a five-hitter and struck out six for Simi Valley.

Francisco Enriquez hit a home run for San Fernando.

El Camino Real 6, Culver City 1--Kurt Birkins (3-0) pitched a five-hitter with nine strikeouts and the Conquistadores won in the Kennedy tournament at Culver City.

Willie Clifford had three hits, including two doubles, and an RBI for El Camino Real (6-6).

Poly 6, Granada Hills 1--Carlos Reguengo (3-1) allowed one run on five hits and struck out 11 for the Parrots (9-2-1) in the Kennedy tournament at Poly.

George Felix and Juan Flores each had two hits and an RBI for Poly. Alex Henriguez had two hits for Granada Hills (5-11).

Monroe 8, Franklin 6--Damien Ritter led off the sixth with a pinch home run to give the Vikings a 5-4 lead and spark a four-run rally in the Kennedy tournament.

Adam Kaplan, who had three hits, pitched the seventh inning in relief of Victor Banuelos to earn his first save despite allowing a two-run double by Isidro Pinedo.

Hart 17, El Dorado 4--J.T. Stotts hit a three-run home run in the second inning and Jeff Gaeta hit another three-run shot in the fourth for the Indians in the Sierra Foothill tournament in Rocklin.

Stotts finished with two hits and scored four runs, and Gaeta had three hits and drove in four runs for Hart (15-0).

Westlake 16, Bakersfield Taft 1--Ethan East and Michael Nickeas each had three hits and drove in two runs, and Jeremy Primack drove in three runs with two hits for the Warriors (6-5) in the Durango tournament in Las Vegas.

Quartz Hill 7, Chaffey 2--Ryan West had three hits, including two triples, and drove in two runs for the Rebels (9-4) in a Pomona tournament victory at Chaffey.

Oak Park 12, Santa Paula 0--Jeff Smith (1-1) allowed one hit and struck out eight in five innings, and Richie Johnson had three hits, including a double, and drove in four runs for the Eagles (2-5) at Oak Park.

Campbell Hall 11, Faith Baptist 0--Michael Frost (3-2) pitched a three-hitter with seven strikeouts for the Vikings (7-3, 1-0) in a Delphic League game at Campbell Hall.

Greg Kriegler hit a two-run home run.

Van Nuys 7, Roosevelt 2--Shane Mochizuki had a home run, single and three RBIs for the Wolves (6-7-1) in the RBI tournament.

Serrano 5, Nordhoff 4--Brian Wood tripled and homered, driving in two runs for the Rangers (5-4) in a Gladstone tournament game.

Channel Islands 12, Buena 11--Ernie Carrasco and Eric Rodriguez each hit two home runs and the Raiders (3-6-1) rallied to win a Dos Pueblos tournament game in eight innings at Buena.

Kurt Probasco had four hits, including two home runs, and four RBIs for the Bulldogs (6-5).

Rio Mesa 10, Antelope Valley 0--Ernie Borjas (4-1), Lionel Carrizales and Greg Ramirez combined on a two-hitter over six innings, and Paul Ayala had three hits and scored four runs for the Spartans (8-3) in a Dos Pueblos tournament game at Rio Mesa.

Moorpark 11, Oxnard 6--Luis Puentes hit a two-run home run to cap a six-run first inning and the Musketeers (7-3) won in the Dos Pueblos tournament at Oxnard.

Hueneme 12, Hawthorne 0--Lee Lewis and David Schoonmaker combined on a one-hitter over five innings, and Robert Avila had two doubles, a single and three RBIs for the Vikings (7-3) in the Dos Pueblos tournament at Hueneme.

Fillmore 9, St. Bonaventure 3--Antonio Tapia (3-1) scattered six hits, striking out five for the Flashes (5-2, 2-0) in a Tri-Valley League game at St. Bonaventure (3-8, 1-1).

Thousand Oaks 3, Scottsdale Desert Mountain 2--Shea Johnson had a double, single and two RBIs for the Lancers (11-2) in the Horizon Hill tournament at Scottsdale, Ariz.

Chris Cordero (4-0) allowed two runs on seven hits in six innings while striking out six.

Valencia 5, Upland 2--Chris Honaker (4-2) struck out 11 and allowed six hits in 6 1/3 innings for the Vikings (12-3) in a Babe Herman tournament victory at Casey Stengel Field.
