Thomas Wins Duel; Royal Upsets Camarillo

Royal High’s Stephanie Thomas and Camarillo’s Kathrine Nevard each pitched two-hitters in a Marmonte League softball game Thursday at Camarillo, but Thomas provided the necessary offense to lift Royal to a 2-0 upset and negate Nevard’s 10-strikeout performance.

Thomas (4-2) hit a run-scoring triple in the sixth inning, then scored on a wild pitch.

Camarillo (10-2, 7-1 in league play) is ranked second in The Times’ regional poll. Royal is 9-9, 3-4.

In other Marmonte League games:

Westlake 4, Thousand Oaks 2--Michelle Notaro had a two-run third-inning home run after Kaitlin Wilson led off the inning with a home run to lift visiting Westlake (7-7, 3-4) to a victory at Thousand Oaks Community Center.

Jennifer Richards had a two-run home run for Thousand Oaks (9-4-1, 5-3).

Simi Valley 7, Channel Islands 0--Lori Tande and Jill Clarkson combined on a no-hitter for Simi Valley (15-2, 5-2) at Channel Islands.

Newbury Park 2, Agoura 0--Oli Keohhou doubled home pinch runner Katie McMahan from second base in the fifth and Kamala Kiffe drove in Candace Roberts in the sixth for Newbury Park (12-4, 5-3) at Agoura.

FOOTHILL LEAGUE

Saugus 3, Burbank 0--Stephanie Blaire (8-4) threw a two-hitter and Alyssa Paraon had a run-scoring double in a three-run fourth inning for Saugus as the Centurions (12-7, 2-2) won at McCambridge Park.

GOLDEN LEAGUE

Highland 24, Antelope Valley 2--Melissa Rawson had three hits and six RBIs, including a first-inning grand slam for the Bulldogs (14-3, 3-1) in a game at Highland that was called after 4 1/2 innings because of the 10-run rule.

Palmdale 18, Littlerock 6--Nadine Klemenz had three hits, including two triples, four RBIs and scored four runs for Palmdale (12-5, 3-1) in a game at Littlerock that was called after five innings.

Kristi DiMarco was four for four with three stolen bases and three runs scored for Palmdale.

Quartz Hill 10, Lancaster 1--Jodie Cox (13-2) had two hits and allowed one earned run and struck out eight in four innings for Quartz Hill (14-2-1, 4-0) at Lancaster.

It was only the fourth earned run that Cox has allowed this season, and broke Lancaster’s string of seven straight shutouts.

MID-VALLEY LEAGUE

Reseda 6, Poly 2--Nelow Rezvani hit a three-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to break a 2-2 tie for Reseda (6-6, 5-2) in a game at Poly (4-9, 2-5).

Rezvani had two hits, and Stephanie Yeatts had four hits, drove in a run and pitched a seven-hitter with 12 strikeouts and no walks.

Sylmar 6, Monroe 1--Cosondra Acosta threw a two-hitter, struck out six and walked two for Sylmar (10-5, 7-0) in a game at Monroe.

EAST VALLEY LEAGUE

Canoga Park 11, Van Nuys 6--Christine Villa hit a two-run single to highlight a five-run sixth inning and the Hunters (4-8, 2-5) won at Canoga Park.

North Hollywood 1, Grant 0--The Huskies were awarded a forfeit victory after Grant Coach Devin Ellison was ejected in the bottom of the sixth inning for arguing a call, North Hollywood Coach Frank Galvan said. Grant had a 16-14 lead at the time.

NORTH VALLEY LEAGUE

Kennedy 9, San Fernando 1--Monique Acedo and Briana Mathiesen each had two hits and Kennedy (15-5, 6-1) won at San Fernando.

WEST VALLEY LEAGUE

Chatsworth 12, Birmingham 0--Junior Lisa Pink (1-0) pitched a one-hitter for Chatsworth (5-7, 3-4) in a game at Birmingham (1-12, 0-7), striking out six and walking two.

El Camino Real 7, Taft 0--Stephanie Frasco (12-2) didn’t allow a hit and struck out four in five innings and had two hits and an RBI at Shoup Park.

ALPHA LEAGUE

Village Christian 7, Frazier Mountain 1--Jaclyn Aranda threw a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts for the Crusaders (17-2, 3-0) at Village Christian.

PACIFIC LEAGUE

Crescenta Valley 26, Muir 1--Melinda Moulden struck out 11, pitched a two-hitter and hit a grand slam for host Crescenta Valley (17-4, 4-0) at Montrose Park.
