Wagner Leads Highland’s Upset

Mike Wagner had eight kills, 19 digs and four blocks for the visiting Highland High boys’ volleyball team Friday night in a four-game Golden League upset of Littlerock, 15-11, 15-4, 5-15, 15-8.

Jared Corpening had 12 kills for the Bulldogs (5-4, 3-3 in league play). The Lobos are 9-2 overall and 5-1 in league.

In other boys’ volleyball matches:

Royal d. Camarillo, 15-0, 15-4, 15-6--Dan Wilson and Bryan Reinstein each had six kills for Royal (11-1, 10-0) in a Marmonte League home match.

Newbury Park d. Agoura, 15-6, 15-5, 15-7--Robert Congelliere had 10 kills and Casey Patterson had 28 assists for Newbury Park (9-3, 8-2) in a Marmonte League match at Newbury Park.

Simi Valley d. Westlake, 15-7, 15-4, 15-12--Cal State Northridge-bound Oliver Bell had 20 kills and 10 digs and Jon Jagard added four blocks and eight digs for the Pioneers (10-5, 6-4) in a Marmonte League victory at Simi Valley.

Campbell Hall d. Village Christian, 15-2, 15-6, 15-4--Larry Cole had 16 kills and Tanner Ragland had 36 assists for host Campbell Hall (10-1, 7-0) in an Alpha League match.

Canoga Park d. Reseda, 15-10, 15-11, 15-3--Greg Damien had 18 kills and eight digs, Minh Le had 24 assists and 10 digs and Nghiem Dinh had 11 assists and 11 digs for Canoga Park (7-5, 4-5) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Reseda (1-11, 0-9).

Sylmar d. Poly, 15-10, 15-3, 20-18--Irvin Gonzalez had 17 kills and seven blocks and Lucas Johnson added 13 blocks for Sylmar (8-4, 6-3) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Poly.

BOYS’ SWIMMING

Westlake 101, Royal 81--Dave Stelle won the 100-yard butterfly and the 100 backstroke and was part of the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relays for the Warriors (6-0, 6-0) in a Marmonte League victory at Rancho Simi Community Park.

For Westlake, Stelle won the 100 butterfly in 56.19 seconds and the 100 back in 57.03 seconds.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

West Valley League Finals--Freshman Amy Jones of Cleveland won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.44, the 100 freestyle in 53.53 and swam legs in two victorious relays at Pierce College.

Erin Lacey and Elizabeth Inai of El Camino Real each won two individual events. Lacey won the 200 and 500 freestyle and Inai the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke.

Westlake 110, Royal 74--Taryn O’Leary won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events for the Warriors (6-0, 6-0) in a Marmonte League victory at Rancho Simi Community Park.

BOYS’ TRACK

Monroe 103, Van Nuys 28--Victor Hall and Ryan Holman each won two individual events and were part of the winning 440-yard relay team (44.9 seconds) for Monroe (5-1, 5-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference home meet.

Cleveland 78, Kennedy 49--Mikah Arnold won three individual events for Kennedy (2-3, 2-3) in a Northwest Valley Conference home meet.

Birmingham 74, El Camino Real 53--Quincy Wright won two individual events and was on the winning 400- and 1,600-meter relay teams for El Camino Real (5-1, 5-1) in a Northwest Valley Conference meet at Birmingham.

GIRLS’ TRACK

Cleveland 75 1/2, Kennedy 46 1/2--Malinda Malone, the defending City Section champion in the 400 meters, won three individual events and was part of the winning 400-meter relay team (51.7 seconds) for Cleveland (6-0, 6-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference meet at Kennedy.

Monroe 84, Van Nuys 40--Cammie Wiltshire won three individual events and was part of the winning mile relay team (4:41.9) for Monroe (4-2, 4-2) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference home meet.

Birmingham 93, El Camino Real 33--Gigi Mendola and Juana Gatson each won two individual events for Birmingham (5-1, 5-1) in a Northwest Valley Conference home meet.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Calabasas 11, Santa Paula 7--Singles players Braden Aftergood and Payam Fafa each won their sets by 6-0 scores for Calabasas (12-4, 4-0) in a Frontier League match at Santa Paula.
