Gordon Finishes Seventh in Debut
Robby Gordon, in his debut as a driver for Arciero-Wells Racing, turned in the best finish by a Toyota-powered champ car in the four-year history of the Toyota program Monday.
Gordon, 29, of Orange, finished seventh in CART’s Bosch Grand Prix in Nazareth, Pa. Jimmy Vasser, driving a Reynard-Honda won the race, beating teammate Alex Zanardi by 1.4 seconds. Greg Moore, driving the backup car of Reynard-Mercedes pole-sitter and teammate Patrick Carpentier, was third.
Gordon started 24th and ran as high as third place in the car raced previously by San Clemente’s Hiro Matsushita.

Dave Carlson has been hired as the Marina boys’ water polo coach, Athletic Director Larry Doyle said Monday. Carlson takes over for Chad Roberts, who left the teaching profession. Carlson served as Roberts assistant last season.
Carlson led the Marina girls’ water polo team to the Southern Section Division I title last season and will also continue to coach the Marina girls.

Theresa Cronin of Rosary has made an oral commitment to attend Chapman, her coach, Tom Tice, said.
Cronin, a four-year starter for the Royals, is batting .444 with 14 runs batted in.
