Swoopes Helps Houston Get Back on Track
Sheryl Swoopes scored 20 points as the Houston Comets bounced back from their second loss of the season by beating the Sacramento Monarchs, 70-53, on Sunday before 10,940 at Houston.
Cynthia Cooper extended her double-figure scoring streak to 53 games with 14 points for the Comets (21-2), who lost, 74-71, to Cleveland on Saturday.
Latasha Byears led Sacramento (6-17) with 15 points.
New York 85, Charlotte 67--Vickie Johnson and Sophia Witherspoon led the Liberty to its season-high sixth consecutive victory with 18 points each in front of 14,684 at New York.
The Liberty (14-9) trail the first-place Sting (15-8) by only one game in the Eastern Conference with seven games remaining for each team.
