Kung Wins Twice at Junior Championship

Candie Kung of Fountain Valley won twice Thursday to advance to the third round of the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa.

Kung beat Anne Lee of Northridge, 1 up, then beat Sandy Kim of West Linn, Ore., 4 and 2

Kung is the only Orange County player left in the tournament. Leigh Anne Hardin of Martinsville, Ind., beat Fullerton’s Angela Rho, 5 and 4, and Celeste Troche of Paraguay beat Carla Legaspi of San Clemente, 8 and 6.

Alex Oh of Brea closed with a one-over 71 and finished tied for sixth in the AJGA Ashworth/Golfweek Junior tournament at Pala Mesa Resort in Fallbrook.

Oh also shot rounds of 74 and 75 to finish at 220. Brett Bockmann of Palm Desert had a three-day total of 215 and won in a playoff.

Brian Sinay of Irvine finished at 224 and Daniel Jung of Anaheim and Brad Oh of Brea each shot 225.

Michael Hilde of Mission Viejo won the 13-and-under boys’ 3-meter event at the Junior National Diving Championships in Largo, Fla.

Hilde finished with a score of 396.66.

Kimberly Driscoll of Laguna Hills finished fourth in the 13-and-under girls’ 1-meter event.

Erica Sorgi of Mission Viejo won the top qualifying spot in the girls’ 16-18 platform competition.
