Foothill Advances in Tournament Play

Chavaughn Brown scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Foothill to a 67-58 victory over North Torrance Friday in the semifinals of the Irvine/Century girls’ basketball tournament.

Kristen Mann had 19 points and 13 rebounds for the Knights, who advance to the championship against Sonora at 7 tonight at Irvine.

In other Irvine/Century tournament games:

Cerritos Gahr 44, Irvine 41--A Gahr player made a three-pointer with 10 seconds left for the victory.

Jody Carlson scored nine points to lead Irvine, which led 24-15 at halftime.

Sunny Hills 55, Santa Ana Valley 51--Aarti Patel scored 11 points to lead Sunny Hills (2-1).

In the Fullerton Tip-Off Classic:

Troy 49, Norco 41--Veronica Johns-Richardson led the host Warriors (3-0) with 14 points, eight rebounds and six steals. Kianey Arnold had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Katie Hardeman had 10 points, five rebounds and four steals for Troy, which advanced to the championship game against Loara.

Loara 59, Garden Grove 35--Shawna Walker had 21 points and three steals to lead Loara (3-0). Carrie Banister and Natalie Smeets each scored 10 points.

Rosary 81, Saddleback 53--Jennifer Farmer scored 21 points and had nine rebounds and nine steals for Rosary. Maggie Barnett scored 19 points, and Romina Bollini scored 15 for the Royals (2-1).

Denise De La Rosa led Saddleback (1-2) with 19 points.

Santa Ana 47, Western 43--Santa Ana’s Marybel Pineda and Claudia Chavez each scored 13 points and helped hold off Western despite a 23-point fourth quarter by the Pioneers. Maggie Ruelas had 14 rebounds and seven points for Santa Ana (1-3) in the consolation game.

Valencia 71, Whittier La Serna 23--Monika Jackley scored 26 points and had 15 rebounds, and teammate Sara Ludwig had 20 points and five assists for the Tigers (2-1).

In the Lakewood Mayfair tournament:

Costa Mesa 61, Long Beach Jordan 53--Autumn Smith had 10 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks to lead Costa Mesa in the consolation game. Evelyn Powers led all scorers with 20 points for the Mustangs. Jenny Earnest had 14 points, seven rebounds and six steals for Costa Mesa (2-1).

Los Alamitos 38, La Verne Bonita 21--Acrivi Coromelas scored eight points for Los Alamitos (2-2) in a consolation game.

In the Woodbridge tournament:

Edison 53, Oxnard 47--Christina Patterson and Trisha Grady each scored 11 points to lead Edison, which took a 32-20 halftime lead.

Mater Dei 71, Woodbridge 43--Lindsay Pavlik scored 17 points for the Monarchs (2-1). Maile Shimoda had eight assists and seven points. Woodbridge is 1-2.
