Monte’s Late Goal Lifts Capistrano Valley

Kris Monte scored the winninggoal with two minutes left to give Capistrano Valley a 2-1 victory over Madera Friday in the Clovis Hoover girls’ soccer tournament.

Capistrano Valley (2-0-1), which advanced to today’s quarterfinals, scored in the first half, but gave up its lead with five minutes left in the game.

Earlier in the day, the Cougars defeated West Bakersfield, 2-0.

In the Corona Centennial boys’ soccer tournament:

Mater Dei 2, Etiwanda 1--Geoff McKnight scored the winning goal in the second half. Matt Doty scored the Monarchs’ first goal off an assist by Seth McKnight near the end of the first half.

In the Irvine boys’ soccer tournament:

Fountain Valley 4, Estancia 2--Cliff McKinley, Sean McFarland and Russell Holmes each scored second-half goals as Fountain Valley (3-0) rallied from a 2-1 halftime deficit.

Laguna Beach 2, Newport Harbor 1--Freddy Labra scored the game-winner with three minutes left. Freshman Ryan Wolfe scored his second goal of the season. Newport Harbor scored on an own goal.

University 2, San Clemente 2--Garrett Plambeck scored in the 64th minute to tie the score for San Clemente.

University’s Jack Ehrman and Jeff Horowitz each scored after Matt Whiechert’s goal gave San Clemente a 1-0 lead in the first half.

In nonleague boys’ soccer:

El Dorado 3, Sunny Hills 0--Ignacio Cid scored a goal and assisted on the other two for the Golden Hawks (1-0).

Scott Gwartz and Jay Larsen also scored for El Dorado.

Laguna Hills 3, El Toro 0--Robby Balogh had a goal and an assist as visiting Laguna Hills (1-1) won despite playing most of the second half down two players because of red cards. El Toro is 0-1-1.

Ocean View 2, Marina 1--Justin Krueger and John Clark scored in the last five minutes of the game to lift Ocean View (1-1).

Jeremy Cunningham scored in the first half for Marina (0-2).

In the El Dorado girls’ water polo tournament:

Cypress 14, Brea Olinda 5--Neisha Hoagland and Lindsay Sampson each scored four goals and Michelle Slevcove added three to lead Cypress (3-1) in the second round.

Bell Gardens 9, Marina 4--Sophomores Erin Wilson and Kendra Shanley each scored goals and Cara Chlebicki scored two for Marina, but the Vikings couldn’t overcome a 6-1 halftime deficit.

Katella 4, Costa Mesa 3--Pahi Horri scored with a man-advantage and 20 seconds left in the fourth quarter for Katella.

Alexis White scored in each of the first three quarters as Katella tied the score, 3-3, going into the fourth. Shayna Kline had two goals and Janniffer Grubisich added one for Costa Mesa.
