Crash Kills Woman, Injures Daughter
Traffic around The Block shopping mall was snarled for hours Tuesday morning after a pickup truck ran a red light, causing a crash that killed an Anaheim woman and injured her teen-age daughter.
The crash closed southbound lanes of The City Drive. Nearby offramps of the Garden Grove Freeway were shut while authorities investigated the crash. Fire authorities used the jaws-of-life as they tried to save the woman, Celina Ruvalcaba, 51, of Anaheim, and her 14-year-old daughter.
The victims were taken to UCI Medical Center, where Ruvalcaba was pronounced dead, apparently after suffering massive trauma to the head. Ruvalcaba’s daughter, whose name was not released, was listed in fair condition Tuesday.
