La Puente Bishop Amat 58, Santa Ana 50--The Lancers (5-2) made 19 of 23 free throws, compared to only four of six for Santa Ana (3-5), to remain unbeaten in two pool-play games. The Saints were called for 19 fouls; Bishop Amat only seven. Rene Cabrera led Santa Ana with 17 points.

Los Amigos 49, Western 37--It was a close game until the fourth quarter when the Lobos pulled away. Isaac Hurtado had 12 points and teammate Carlos Sanchez had 11. Billvick Perez scored 11 points for Western.

In the Gary Raya Co-Ed Classic:

Aliso Niguel 75, El Rancho 51--Dave Camadini led the Wolverines with 20 points and Brandon Sievers had 13 in the victory over the Dons.

Esperanza 42, Valencia 29--Lloyd Walls scored 16 points for Esperanza (5-2), which led, 22-12, at the half.

In the Irvine World News boys’ basketball tournament:

Irvine 60, Santa Fe Springs St. Paul 47--Tim Rapp led with 17 points and Chris Ferguson had 11 for Irvine, which will play La Costa Canyon in a semifinal game at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

La Costa Canyon 61, University 59--Brian Faulstich had 24 points to help the Mavericks hold off the Trojans. University was led in scoring by Ryan Zinchefky with 13 points.

Newport Harbor 61, Oceanside 45--It was a close game up until the third quarter when Newport Harbor took the lead for good. Matt Jameson had 15 points and teammate Alan Limon 12 to lead the Sailors in the quarterfinal game. Newport Harbor will play Woodbridge in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Woodbridge 60, San Clemente 57--Scott Barlow had 29 points (13 in the fourth quarter) and made the winning three-point shot with 6/10ths of a second left. Barlow, who made four three-point shots, is in his second game back after leading Woodbridge to a Southern Section championship in football.

In the Patriot Classic boys’ basketball tournament:

St. Margaret’s 71, Fontana Ambassador Christian 49--Alex Huff scored 24 of his 36 points in the first half as St. Margaret’s took an 11-point lead in the semifinal game. Huff made seven three-pointers for the Tartans (3-4).

In the Troy Courtside Clash:

Sunny Hills 59, Torrance 49--Michael Uyeda and Nathan Hochgesang each scored 14 points to lead the Lancers (3-5) in pool play.

In nonleague boys’ basketball:

Buena Park 53, Chilliwick (Canada) 39--DeAndre Gipson had 18 points and five assists, and Matt Okoro had 17 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks for Buena Park (7-2).

Kennedy 56, Fullerton 55--Tony Jimmerson scored off an offensive rebound with 10 seconds left to clinch the victory for Kennedy (3-6). Jason Grier added 13 points for the Fighting Irish and Michael Bridgeford led Fullerton (3-6) with 17 points.

Loara 59, Magnolia 51--Wes Wardrop and Herbert Gracia each scored 19 points to lead the Saxons (8-1) to the victory at home.

Laguna Beach 64, Bolsa Grande 49--Kurt Beimfohr had 24 points for visiting Laguna Beach. Jon James had 34 points for the Matadors.

Savanna 68, Orange 55--Taking advantage of a strong first half, during which Savanna led, 34-20, the Rebels were able to hold off a second-half surge by Orange.

Solomon Brown scored 23 points and Apollo Boone had 21 to lead Savanna (7-2) over the visiting Panthers (6-3).

Tarbut V’Torah 41, Fairmont 39--Tarbut V’Torah trailed by four at the half but surged to an eight-point lead in the fourth quarter and led the rest of the way. Tanner Bral scored 14 points for Tarbut V’Torah (5-3).
