Simi Valley 61, Christian Brothers (N.J.) 50--Rafael Berumen scored 22 points, making 14 of 15 free throws, and the Pioneers won a quarterfinal game at the Nike Holiday Classic in San Diego.

Simi Valley (9-1), ranked No. 1 in The Times’ regional poll, advanced to Wednesday’s semifinals.

Brett Michel and Branduinn Fullove added 13 points apiece for the Pioneers.

Christian Brothers (3-1), which beat perennial City Section power Manual Arts last week, was led by Todd Billet, who scored 23 points.

Moorpark 66, Granada Hills 49--Todd Tomlinson had 10 points in the first quarter and 10 more in the third, finishing with 30 points for Moorpark (7-4) in a consolation quarterfinal game of the Chaminade tournament. Eric Duran and Ohad Pearl each had 11 points for Granada Hills (1-8).

Quartz Hill 62, Van Nuys 50--Brady Chelette hit five three-point shots en route to 24 points for Quartz Hill (9-4) in a consolation quarterfinal victory in the Chaminade tournament.

Abe Morabbi of Van Nuys had 29 points and made eight of eight free throws in the fourth quarter.

Royal 79, Lynwood 55--The Highlanders put together their best performance of the season, according to Coach Larry Wiksell, to win the quarterfinal game of the Hart tournament.

Royal (6-5), which will face Sylmar in a semifinal at 6:30 tonight, went on an 11-0 run to end the first quarter with a 21-10 lead.

Lynwood (9-5) trimmed a 40-24 halftime deficit to 42-35 midway through the third quarter, but Dusty Cruz hit a pair of three-point shots to push the Highlanders’ lead to 48-35.

Cruz, who had 13 points, was one of four Royal players to score in double figures.

Sylmar 72, Sacramento Highlands 55--The Spartans struggled shooting, but easily won the Hart tournament quarterfinal because their superior athleticism led to numerous offensive rebounds and putbacks of missed shots.

Jerimiah Turner had 14 points and 12 rebounds for Sylmar (11-3), which turned a 14-12 lead after the first quarter into a 32-22 advantage at halftime.

Redmond (Wash.) 58, Hart 47--The Indians cut their deficit to 51-47 with 2:35 left on a free throw by Liam Waters, but didn’t score again in a quarterfinal game of the Hart tournament.

Cleveland 78, Palmdale 55--Kent Dennis scored 18 of his 30 points in the first quarter to help the Cavaliers roll in the quarterfinal game of the Hart tournament.

Cleveland (8-3), which will play Redmond (Wash.) in a semifinal at 8 tonight, led, 31-18, at the end of the first quarter.

Alemany 83, St. Bonaventure 47--In the decisive third quarter, Devin Montgomery had 10 points and Bryson Atkins had eight for Alemany in the first round of the L.A. Baptist tournament.

Montgomery had 14 points in the second half and finished with 26 points and 12 assists. Atkins finished with 22 points and Reny Maynard added 16 points for No. 3-ranked Alemany (5-4).

David Berglund had 20 points for St. Bonaventure.

Oxnard 62, Westlake 52--Damian Tafoya had 13 points and reserve Ricky Hernandez scored eight of his 10 points in the fourth quarter for Oxnard (6-4) in a consolation quarterfinal game of the Santa Barbara tournament.

Oxnard, which had five players score in double figures, received 12 points each from Matt Merricks and Gary Eberhardt. Jacob Galloway added 11 points and six assists.

Jake DeGennaro led Westlake (5-7) with 18 points and Taylor Wells had 17.

Nordhoff 72, A.B. Miller 60--Andy Flores scored 27 points with eight rebounds and the Rangers (9-1) won a first-round game at the Santa Paula tournament.

Montclair Prep 79, Pasadena Marshall 57--Josiah Johnson scored 18 points with 17 rebounds but the Mounties made just five of 15 free throws in the second half during a second-round loss at the LaSalle-Temple City tournament.

Jesse Bronner added 12 points for Montclair Prep (4-7).

Newbury Park 71, Templeton 47--John Harris scored 17 points including four of the Panthers’ 12 three-point baskets in an Atascadero tournament first-round victory.

Jesse Roche also had four three-pointers for Newbury Park (6-3), which forced 31 turnovers.
