Valley Overcomes Loss and Wins

Valley College, playing without its leading rebounder and second-leading scorer, hung on to defeat Riverside, 63-59, in a consolation game Tuesday in the Fullerton women’s basketball tournament.

Meresaini Malaki had 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Carrie Miller contributed 10 rebounds and 10 points, including two free throws with 10 seconds left, for the Monarchs (11-4).

Tynisha Howze of Valley is sidelined indefinitely with a bruised larynx after taking an elbow to the throat in a game on Monday.

Antelope Valley 75, McHenry County (Illinois) 45--Erica Yazzie scored 18 of her 29 points in the first half for the Marauders in a consolation victory in the Fullerton tournament.

Yazzie hit three three-point shots. Ebony Davis added 18 points for the Marauders (7-7).

The Master’s 74, Aquinas 45--Elizabeth Hansell scored 24 points and had 11 rebounds to give the Mustangstheir fifth consecutive victory in a game at The Master’s.

Nikki Hove hit three of four three pointers and had 13 points for The Master’s (11-3), which had 17 steals.

Mary Bond had 11 rebounds for Aquinas (4-8), which made only two of 18 (11.1%) three-pointers.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Moorpark 87, West L.A. 60--Justin Beach collected 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Raiders in a consolation victory in the Canyons tournament.

Noel Bloom hit seven of eight shots for Moorpark (7-8) to help sink West L.A. (0-10).

Trade Tech 73, Canyons 70--The Cougars blew an eight-point halftime lead and an early lead in the first overtime before losing a semifinal game in two overtimes in their own tournament.

Anthony Ellison had 20 points and 15 rebounds for Canyons (9-8).

Gettysburg (Pa.) 65, Cal Lutheran 62--Jon Bowman had 20 points and Gettysburg (6-2) beat the Kingsmen (3-4) in the opening round of the Lutheran Brotherhood tournament at Cal Lutheran.
