Beimfohr Helps Laguna Beach Edge L.A. Loyola

Kurt Beimfohr scored 18 points and Travis Hanour had 11 as Laguna Beach defeated Los Angeles Loyola, 45-43, in the semifinals of the Century boys’ basketball tournament Tuesday.

The Artists (12-2) were able to hold off Loyola and advance to tonight’s final against Bellevue (Wash.) Eastside Catholic at 8:05.

In other Century tournament games:

Eastside Catholic 49, Century 41--Sophomore Chris Ferretti scored 16 points and Mike Zepeda 11 in the semifinal loss for Century (5-8).

El Modena 40, Norwalk Glenn 38--Jaime Cortez scored 13 for El Modena (4-11), which overcame a two-point deficit going into the fourth quarter of the consolation game.

In the Brea Olinda tournament:

Brea Olinda 72, Cerritos Gahr 65--Brea Olinda (10-2) advanced to the final against Warren (12-0) at 8 tonight. Jarett Skrifvars led the Wildcats with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Kyle Dodd scored 16 and Ryan Wilber had 14 for the Wildcats.

In the Katella Klassic:

Katella 68, Hesperia Sultana 35

Rob Abercrombie scored 17 points to lead Katella, which will play La Habra in the championship game at 8 tonight.

In the Las Vegas tournament:

Las Vegas Cheyenne 56, Troy 55 (OT)--Demetrius Hunter scored 19 points, and Eddie Shelby added 16 to lift Cheyenne.

Jerry Inzunza led Troy (9-5) with 19 points. Mark Ahlberg scored 18, making five of six shots from the field and all eight of his free throws.

Woodbridge 57, Mill Valley Tamalpais 49--Bryan Uecker made two steals late in the fourth quarter to help Woodbridge to the victory.

In the Marin Catholic tournament:

Servite 49, Arroyo Grande 43--Andrew Moore and Evan Friedl each scored 13 points to help Servite rally from a 20-11 halftime deficit. Matt Ponsford had nine steals in the second half to lead Servite (6-7).

In the San Diego Mt. Carmel tournament:

Los Alamitos 82, JPC Australia 60--Jeff Grgas scored 27 points and had 10 rebounds to lead Los Alamitos to a quarterfinal victory. Ron Prettyman scored 23 points, including six three-pointers, and Ryan Keller scored 13 and had 10 assists for the Griffins (8-4), who play Monte Vista in a semifinal game at 8 tonight.

Los Angeles Pacific Hills 67, University 61--The score was tied, 58-58, with three minutes to play, but Pacific Hills outscored the Trojans, 9-3, the rest of the way.

Ryan Abrahams led Pacific Hills (9-3) with a game-high 29 points and Gary White added 15.

Andy Lawrence scored 18 points and Ryan Zinchefsky 15 for University.

In the St. Cloud (Fla.) Southern Showdown:

La Quinta 47, St. Cloud 28--Chris Smith led the Aztecs (8-4) with 18 points and nine rebounds. Ben Fredrickson had 15 points and 11 rebounds.

La Quinta plays Boone at 5 tonight in the championship game.

In nonleague basketball:

Anaheim 95, Hilltop Academy (Canada) 39--Erez Assaraf had 18 points and 14 rebounds and Jesus Salcedo had 17 and 10 for Anaheim (5-8), which led 53-16 at halftime.
