Photo Lab Workers Escape Injury as Roof Collapses

Two workers at a photo lab narrowly escaped injury when the roof of their building collapsed from the weight of standing water, officials said Wednesday.

The employees heard beams above them crack and ran out of their office just before a 20-by-20-foot section of roof caved in Tuesday morning, said Maria Hill of Prolab Custom Color Lab.

Firefighters who responded to the call estimated the damage to the building and equipment at $1 million.

The building in the 10300 block of Jefferson Boulevard has a flat roof that gave way because its “scuppers”--holes designed to carry away water--were blocked by debris, said Neil Petzing of the Culver City Fire Department.
