Harvard-Westlake Continues Long Week With Victory

The Harvard-Westlake High boys’ soccer team continued to fight its way through a tough finish to the season Wednesday with a 3-2 comeback victory over Notre Dame in a Mission League game at Harvard-Westlake.

Because of rainouts, the Wolverines (15-6, 8-2) are playing five league games in five days this week.

Harvard-Westlake remains tied for first with Loyola. Each team has two league games remaining.

Notre Dame (9-6-3, 6-3-1) is in third place.

Wednesday, Harvard-Westlake trailed, 2-0, at halftime before Fred Post started the comeback with a goal in the 65th minute. Following Post’s strike, Harvard-Westlake’s Zach Schwartz ran into the goal to retrieve the ball and tangled with Notre Dame goalkeeper Juan Plascencia, who was ejected for the contact.

Notre Dame finished the game a man short. With seven minutes to play, Danny Sable converted a penalty shot for a 2-2 tie.

Ryan Kim scored the winning goal with two minutes remaining. Following the play, Knight reserve goalkeeper Hector Areliz drew a was yellow card for an outburst and Notre Dame was forced to use a field player in goal.

In other boys’ soccer games:

Calabasas 3, Santa Paula 1--Second-half goals by Itzik Rapaport, Brian Lando and Trevor Gale clinched second place in the Frontier League for the visiting Coyotes (14-4-1, 7-2-1).

Camarillo 2, Agoura 1--Scott Coleman scored with four minutes to play in overtime and Chad Schutt converted a penalty kick two minutes later to lift the visiting Scorpions (9-7-4, 6-5-2) to a Marmonte League victory. Agoura scored with 15 seconds to play.

Camarillo can clinch the league’s third and final automatic Southern Section playoff berth with a victory today at Westlake.

Palmdale 3, Littlerock 3--Palmdale’s Kim Britton scored the game’s final goal 13 minutes into the second half of a Golden League game at Littlerock (10-7-2, 3-5-1).

Palmdale (15-7-2, 6-1-2) trailed, 3-2, at halftime and played more than half the game a man short after Eric Villalobos was ejected. Palmdale, which has one league game left, is one half game ahead of Quartz Hill, which has two league games remaining.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Calabasas 4, Santa Paula 0--Brooke Niles scored three goals in the Frontier League game and the Coyotes clinched the program’s first league title at Calabasas.

Notre Dame 2, Harvard-Westlake 0--Hailey Murray scored twice and the Knights (14-3-3, 5-3-1) moved into second place with a Mission League defeat of the third-place Wolverines (8-10-2, 4-4-1).

Westlake 3, Royal 1--Megan Daly scored with 10 minutes remaining to break a 1-1 tie and the visiting Warriors (16-3-2, 10-1-2) clinched second place in the Marmonte League.

Oak Park 4, St. Bonaventure 0--Amy Johnson scored twice and the host Eagles (17-2-1, 7-1) upset the first-place Seraphs (17-2-1, 7-1) in a Tri-Valley league game.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Thousand Oaks 16, Calabasas 1--Christy Hindley had four goals and the visiting Lancers (18-7, 11-1) clinched the Marmonte League title.

Louisville 9, La Canada 7--Katie Pyle and Kiley Grombacher each scored once in the second overtime to lift the Royals (18-2, 5-2) to a Mission League victory at Louisville.
