Blick Buries 30-Footer, Concordia

Westmont’s Corey Blick ended Concordia’s hopes of upsetting the first-place Warriors when he connected on a 30-foot shot with one second remaining in overtime to lift Westmont to an 81-78 victory in a Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Saturday night at Concordia Arena.

Josh Giles, who led Concordia (12-15, 3-7) with 20 points, hit a running jump shot to tie the score, 67-67, and force overtime.

In overtime, Concordia’s Paul Bettencourt hit a three-point shot to tie the score at 78 with two seconds remaining. Blick, who finished with 10 points, got the in-bounds pass, turned and nailed the game-winning basket.

Ken Knabke led Westmont (18-6, 9-1) with 17 points. Brian Gomes had 14 points and nine rebounds.

Kalim Scott had 17 points and eight rebounds for Concordia, which lost its fourth game in a row.

In nonconference women’s basketball:

UC San Diego 60, Chapman 53--Stephanie Flaxbeard had 14 points and Lyndsay Brown had 13 points for Chapman (15-8) in a losing effort. Amy McClure led UC San Diego (19-3) with 16 points.

In softball at the Coca-Cola Classic at Tempe, Ariz.:

Ohio State 4, CS Fullerton 0--Jodi Dolan and Meaghan Robinson combined on a four-hitter for Ohio State (1-2-1). Nikki Hart had two of the four Fullerton hits.

In an earlier game, Washington beat the Titans, 8-0, in six innings. In the first game of the day, the Titans defeated Purdue, 2-0. Donna Coombes held the Boilermakers to four hits and struck out four for the Titans.

Rachel Olvera was two for three and knocked in two runs for the Titans (2-2).

In wrestling:

Rain washes away Titans’ chances--The rain prevented Cal State Fullerton’s wrestling team from making their 7 p.m. match at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. The Titan’s were forced to forfeit and dropped to 3-9 overall, 1-4 in the Pacific 10.
