Punto’s Home Runs Help Saddleback Win, 18-0
Nick Punto hit two home runs to highlight a 19-hit attack and four pitchers combined on a nine-hit shutout for Saddleback in an 18-0 victory over Treasure Valley (Ore.) Tuesday at Saddleback.
Punto hit his fifth and sixth home runs, had three runs batted in and scored four runs for the Gauchos, who sent 13 batters to the plate and scored nine runs in the sixth inning. Saddleback added seven runs in the seventh.
Jason Radwan hit his second home run and had three RBIs and Jason Marian also hit his third home run for Saddleback (9-1).
Treasure Valley is 7-5.
In Orange Empire Conference women’s tennis:
Orange Coast 5, Saddleback 4--Marie Fruct provided the only convincing victory in a close match for Orange Coast (2-1-1, 1-0), winning her sets, 6-0, 6-3, to help the Pirates win their conference opener.
Orange Coast was ranked second in the Intercollegiate Tennis Assn. state preseason poll. Saddleback was No. 12.
In Orange Empire Conference men’s volleyball:
Golden West 3, Palomar 0--Casey Jennings had 36 assists and Casey Brewer recorded seven kills to lead host Golden West (1-0, 1-0), which won, 15-3, 15-5, 15-5.
