* Registration for North Valley Youth Baseball will take place at the group’s complex from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

* Tryouts for the Ventura County-based California Waves’ 14-and-under fast-pitch travel softball team are scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Peach Hill park in Moorpark.

* Registration is scheduled each weekend this month for the Sylmar Independent Baseball League’s Ponytail Division.

The Ponytail Division, for girls 5 to 18, plays ASA-sanctioned fast-pitch softball. Sign-ups will be taken on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the league’s complex.

* NBA 2Ball competition for youths 9 to 17 is taking place through the Los Angeles City Department of Recreation and Parks.

The competition, sponsored by the city parks department and the Los Angeles Clippers, takes place at recreation centers throughout the Valley and L.A. city areas and is intended to encourage youths to participate in basketball and promote teamwork.

A 2Ball team consists of two boys or girls who play in one of three age divisions and may go on to regional final competition in February or March. Each team is given a minute to convert as many baskets as possible from designated spots.

* Dive Thousand Oaks, a year-round U.S. Diving program, is taking sign-ups for 1998.

Boys and girls from 8 to 17 will learn fundamentals of springboard diving and participate in age-group competition.
