Valencia Squeaks by Burroughs

Tiffany Morgan scored 19 points and made three free throws down the stretch and Valencia High held off Burroughs, 43-42, in a Foothill League girls’ basketball game Tuesday night at Valencia.

The Indians (12-5, 1-1), the eighth-ranked team in The Times’ regional poll, had a chance to tie it, but officials ruled Leslie Perez’s shot at the buzzer a two-pointer, saying her foot was on the three-point line.

Valencia is 12-4, 2-0.

Crescenta Valley 81, Muir 41--Michelle Greco scored 13 points and Kristie Umemoto scored 10 points in a 29-point third quarter as the Falcons (12-1, 2-0) routed Muir in a Pacific League game at Crescenta Valley.

Greco, who did not play in the fourth quarter, went 15 of 25 from the field and finished with 33 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists. Umemoto wound up with 14 points

Buena 65, Oxnard 38--Renae Hofmann scored 16 points and Amrit Chima had 10 points and four steals for the Bulldogs (12-1, 4-0) in a Channel League victory at Oxnard.

L.A. Baptist 52, Village Christian 44--Kelly Feirfeil hit two baskets to break a 40-40 tie and the Knights (4-9, 1-0) handed the Crusaders their first Alpha League loss since 1992.

Hart 51, Canyon 37--Shannon Spielbuehler had 11 points and Briana Kentfield grabbed 11 rebounds for the Indians (12-2, 2-0) in a Foothill League game at Canyon.

Louisville 64, Chaminade 27--Kari Crawley scored 14 points and had eight assists and Megan Wiser added 15 points for the Royals (11-1, 2-1) in a Mission League game.

Notre Dame 77, Flintridge Sacred Heart 39--Sierra Hauser--Price scored 18 points and Judy Diaz had 10 points and five steals for the Knights (11-5, 1-2) in a Mission League game at Notre Dame.

Glendale 64, Pasadena 37--Alina Markari scored 21 points and Hilary Driffill added 14 points for the Dynamiters (11-6, 2-0) in a Pacific League game at Glendale.

Paraclete 58, Rosamond 18--Christine Lambert scored 27 points and Jackie Kolesar had 11 points, six assists and five steals to help the Spirits (11-2) to victory in the High Desert League opener.

La Reina 37, Bishop Diego 35--MacKenzie Vandergeest scored 16 points and sank a free throw with five seconds left that helped the Regents seal a Tri-Valley League victory at La Reina.

Fillmore 52, Carpinteria 38--Rebecca Enriquez had 15 points and 10 rebounds and Esther Gurrola had 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Flashes (9-5, 1-0) in a Tri-Valley League game at Fillmore.

St. Bonaventure 92, Oak Park 44--Stacey Howard scored 39 points and had 12 rebounds, Shannon Fink had 13 points and six steals and Amy Rosario had 11 points and eight assists for the Seraphs (8-6) in a Tri-Valley League opener at Oak Park (1-11).

Nordhoff 73, Calabasas 46--Christin Roper had 25 points and 13 rebounds, Erin Barker had 20 points and seven rebounds, and Nell Becker added 16 points, 11 assists and seven steals for the Rangers (13-4, 2-0) in a Frontier League game at Nordhoff.

Muir 78, Crescenta Valley 46--Alex Tima scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Falcons in a Pacific League game at Muir (13-5, 2-0).

Crescenta Valley (10-8, 0-2) shot 32% from the field.

Littlerock 57, Antelope Valley 54--Tony Mayes scored 17 points in the second half, including four in the last five seconds to lift the Lobos to a Golden League victory at Littlerock.

Saugus 66, Burbank 52--Colin O’Hara scored 16 points and Brad Cleveland and Nic Echevestre each scored 12 to help the Centurions (8-9, 2-0) to victory in the Foothill League game at Saugus.

Hart 59, Canyon 51--J.T. Stotts had 21 points while Jeff Whitmore scored 14 and grabbed 10 rebounds for host Hart (10-8, 1-1) in a Foothill League game.

Nordhoff 69, Calabasas 55--Seven-footer Chris Christoferson had 21 points, 15 rebounds and 10 blocked shots and the Rangers (1-1 in league) pulled away in the second half of a Frontier League game at Calabasas.

Spencer Hariton and Huton Ghoreishi each had 13 points for the Coyotes (8-9, 1-1).
