Hellman, Coastal Panel Seek Pact on Development

Share

Representatives for Hellman Properties and the California Coastal Commission are negotiating ways to resolve their differences on wetlands restoration for the proposed Hellman Ranch golf course and residential development.

Spokesmen for both sides said the commission’s February hearing on the project has been postponed until April so talks can continue until then.

“We’re very confident that we will reach an acceptable agreement with the Coastal Commission that won’t compromise the golf course or the other uses on the property,” said Hellman spokesman and family member Jerry Tone.

Hellman has proposed building an 18-hole golf course and 70 homes and restoring 32 acres of freshwater and saltwater wetlands on the 231-acre site.

Coastal Commission staff analyst John Auyong said the agency is working to bring more wetlands to the property.
